This week: the BEAT-itudes
Is it megamorphic if there isn’t a pun?
1. Beat - the music
When it comes to attitude in the Bible, Music or the BEAT Is CENTRAL. GOD MADE MUSIC
1 Corinthians 14:7-8 - a certain sound
7 Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? 8 For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?
Presence & FACT
Psalm 22:3 KJV But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
NIV and almost every other version: "you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises"
THE KJV IS FAR MORE ACCURATE!
Inhabit “יָשַׁב yashab”
Dwell (437 times)
Inhabitant (221 times)
Abide (70 times)
Inhabit (39 times)
Remain (23 times)
Where are those words in the other versions?
The main point however, PRIASE BRINGS THE PRESENCE.
Matthew 18:19 Symphoneo 19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree (Symphoneo) about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven”
Percussion[BEAT] in the praise!
1Ch 15:19
So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;
1Ch 16:5
Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
2Ch 29:30 (Asaph, musician & Prophet)
Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Neh 11:22 (Musicians can’t be organized leaders?) “The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the business of the house of God.”
Matthew 18:19 Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
Psalm 150 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
2. Beat - win
A. Praise = Winning
When we praise God, we enforce his victory. In any situation, in any circumstance.
Philippians 4:4—Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
Revelation 12:11 “They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”
- Satan wants praise. When we Praise God, who is worthy of it. Satan loses.
Isaiah 61 “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
B. WINNING IS BIBLICAL.
Philipians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
James 4:7 ”Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Ephesians 6:12-18 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; ...”
3. Beat - Get Disciplined
Hebrews 12:1-12 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.”
BID.
Let’s commit to living a life of praise.
