Add Ons

Theme: Add ons

2 Peter 1:5-7

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

These are for us all. If we are a born again Bible believer then we are designed by God for growth, for maturity, for a glorious inheritance . Being a man or woman of God is not limited to those in the ministry and ministering is for us all to be trained in by those in the ministry

What is an add on?

What are we adding on to – our faith

Jude we need to contend for the faith (Jude 1:3) and base our faith on the faith

Biblical faith which is Hebrews 11:1

Biblically faith is a foundation (Hebrews 6:1)

- Foundations are something that are built on, or to put it another way are added onto

- In order to build or ad onto, we need to make sure we have solid foundations and ones that suit the particular building we are wanting to build

- Biblically we are building for eternity and thus need Biblical foundaitons and appreciate they have a lot of substance thus need plenty of time to put in place

- We need to do the building, the adding on, in partnership with Jesus. When we do this, the building, the adding on will be done with excellence as Jesus does all things well, Jesus does all he does with excellence

Topic: Godliness and brotherly kindness

Godliness

It may seem like stating the obvious to say that Godliness is all about God. However it is indeed that and when it comes to Godliness and life in general, it is often the case that the obvious gets missed. For example in Psalm 19 we see that the heavens declare the glory of God and speak every day in every language to every one, yet so many miss the obvious that the simple existence of all of creation and all its glory make it obvious God exists and call us to accountability, leaving us all without excuse Romans 1

However, just because something is blatantly obvious, doesn’t mean it is not full of mystery, intrigue, fascination, and as with creation, essentially limitless scope for investigation.

Such is the nature of God, who Himself is eternal, the scope for us to study, meditate and participate in His wonder, worship, word, will, ways, works, and wisdom is infinite!

Eternal life is to know God and Him who He sent. Knowing God involves authentically living with Him, following after Him, becoming like him, living unto and for Him, both here on earth and throughout Eternity

Luke 11:42 “But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.”

Becoming like God

John 17:1-3

Building on the Rock - Matt 7:24-27

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
