Resurrection Life 4
THE LAMB ON THE THRONE:
As Maghan, Shona, and Phil all touched on in their briefings in our Resurrection life, Lamb influenced theme this month, the Exodus story has an incredible story of how the blood of a lamb covered a household and nation. How beautiful. As mentioned, that lamb was a foretelling, an insight, a glimpse into what JESUS the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the WORLD did for all of us.
In my research, I discovered a less mentioned yet super interesting link between the lamb and the throne in the Old Testament. So as a set up, let’s check out Deuteronomy 17 (HANDY LINK)
Again, Jesus is that lamb. Jesus IS on the throne. Not just ON it but in the MIDST of it…more on that later.
I have three points today, that are actually three questions that I believe when we dig into these questions will help us to engage with Jesus as the lamb on the throne.
What does the lamb signify?
What does the throne signify?
What does the lamb on the throne signify?
Lamb signifies:
Lowly/meek (Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Obedience Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Purity
1 Peter 1:13-21 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Sacrifice / Blood Shed for remission - Hebrews 9
God provides - is our entire sustenance
Gen 22:8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
Throne signifies:
“Throne, chair of state often set on a dais and surmounted by a canopy, representing the power of the dignitary who sits on it and sometimes conferring that power.”
