CHOSEN GENERATION #2
CHOSEN GENERATION
1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
This is our scripture for the month. Before I get into my specific topic, I want to highlight a point that I think show how amazing this piece of scripture is: In one sentence we get an executive summary of who we are, what we’re made to do and where we should dwell!
MAJOR LIFE QUESTIONS ANSWERED
WHO WE ARE:
CHOSEN, ROYAL, HOLY and PECULIAR
WHAT WE’RE MADE TO DO:
Show forth the praises of Him AKA Jesus.
Praise doesn’t simply mean sing a song. I looked up the dictionary and the concordance and got some serious gold with this word. So praise simply means to “express approval” when you look at the dictionary - the concordance has a bit more subtlety to it HERE'S A HANDY LINK
But basically - we are made to EXPRESS THE AWESOMENESS AND TESTIMONY OF GOD
WHERE WE SHOULD DWELL
In the light of Christ!
DIVINE DESIGN SO MY BODY IS NOT MINE
OOOOH YEAH, I GOT A FUN TOPIC!
In the age old words from the sound of music - “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start”
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
DIVINE DESIGN: C R E A T O R
- The only things a creator is limited by is their; imagination (aka their capacity for creativity) and their resources.
- In the case of God he is THE creator - aka ultimate limitless imagination and limitless resources. He is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent
Revelation 19:6 “And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the[a]Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”
Psalm 147:4-5 “He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.
1 John 3:20 “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.”
Isaiah 40:28 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”
- Beyond our understanding - in the at least THOUSANDS of years of life on earth we ALWAYS have a bunch of insanely intelligent people and they still haven’t figured how it all works.
Job 26:14, “Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways,And how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?”
Job 36:22-26 “See, God is honored in His power. Who is a teacher like Him? Who has told Him the way He should go? And who has said, ‘You have done wrong’? “Remember that you should honor His work, of which men have sung. All men have seen it. Man sees it from far away. See, God is honored, and we do not know Him. We are not able to know the number of His years.
Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and My ways are not your ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Psalm 8:3-4, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?”
- Ultimate PURPOSE for creation = relationship
Psalm 119:73, “Your hands have made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.”
Psalm 139:13, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.”
Jeremiah 1:5, ““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””
1 Corinthians 2:9, But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
THE HUMAN CONUNDRUM
Gen 1:26-28 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Gen 3: 1-5 “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
BODY IS NOT MINE
WE ARE VESSELS
Isaiah 29:16 “You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, "You did not make me"? Can the pot say to the potter, "You know nothing”?"
Isaiah 45:9 “Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker-- An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?' Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands '?
Romans 9:14-26 “ What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? As He says also in Hosea: “I will call them My people, who were not My people, And her beloved, who was not beloved.” “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’There they shall be called sons of the living God.”
Matthew 10:39 “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
2 Corinthians 5:5 “Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”
Ephesians 3:14-19 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God”.
SET UNDER ROYAL, HOLY AUTHORITY
Ephesians 1:15-23 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all
Hebrews 4:14 “ Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.”
